Kingsbridge sits at the northwest corner of the borough, and the drive down to us is short enough that most people make it without much thought: the Deegan if it is clear, Bailey Avenue to Jerome if it is not. What we hear from this neighborhood more than anywhere else is that the car has to be back before school pickup, or before the parking situation on the block changes. So we are direct about timing. A chip is roughly half an hour, a windshield is sixty to ninety minutes plus the safe drive-away wait, and we tell you the moment we know whether the part is on the shelf.
The claim is our job, not yours. We take the carrier and policy number, open the glass claim, bill them directly, and tell you the deductible before anything is cut out or ordered. Plenty of drivers assume it is not worth involving insurance for a chip. The opposite is usually true, because a repair is the one glass job most carriers cover with the deductible waived, and it protects the factory seal on the windshield you already have.
Broadway runs under the elevated 1 train through Kingsbridge, with stations at 231st Street and 238th Street, and West 231st Street is the shopping block everyone means when they say they are going down to the avenue. Bailey Avenue and Kingsbridge Terrace climb the hill to the east, Van Cortlandt Park caps the north, and the Major Deegan and the Henry Hudson Parkway run along the west side toward Marble Hill and the Broadway Bridge. Parking on the hill blocks is tight and often sloped, which matters for mobile work, because a windshield wants a level surface. Where a customer has a garage or a flat driveway we come to them; otherwise the shop is the safer bet. Broadway backs up under the elevated whenever a bus is loading, and the cross streets come down off the hill steeply into it.

Two highways do most of the damage. The Deegan and the Henry Hudson both run along this side of the neighborhood, and highway following distance is where stone chips come from. Under the Broadway elevated the roadway is patched and jointed, and the vibration of crossing those plates is often what persuades an existing chip to spread. Winter on the hill blocks supplies the rest, with cars parked on a slope, frost overnight and hot air on the defroster in the morning. Falling branches from the tree-lined streets near the park account for more broken rear windows than people expect. Cars kept on the Bailey Avenue side pick up spray and grit off the highway edge too, and a windshield that is already pitted will hide a new chip until it starts to run.
The quick version is the Major Deegan south, off into the west Bronx, then across to Mount Eden Avenue. The local version is Bailey Avenue to Jerome Avenue and south under the 4 train, which is rougher pavement but avoids the highway if your glass is fragile. Both come to about four miles and fifteen minutes to number 30, between Jerome and the Grand Concourse.
