A good share of the Soundview work we do starts in a parking lot. Two things drive the damage here. The first is the Bruckner. Merging on and off an elevated expressway means running right behind trucks at speed, and that is where windshield chips come from. The second is simply that so many cars sleep outside. Glass parked in the open through a January night contracts hard, then gets a face full of hot defroster air in the morning, and an old chip decides that is the moment to run. Sitting near the water does not help either, since salt air, damp and morning condensation work at aging seals until a quarter window or a rear panel starts fogging from inside. Broken side glass follows its own pattern, since a car left in an open lot overnight is a far easier target than one behind a gate.

Figure six miles and about twenty minutes when the Cross Bronx behaves.
