Fordham drivers usually find us the easy way, straight down the Grand Concourse. Come south from Fordham Road and you are at West Mount Eden Avenue in about ten minutes with no expressway involved. That matters more than it sounds, because a windshield with a crack running through it is not something you want to take onto the Cross Bronx to reach a shop. Plenty of people from the blocks around the shopping strip drop the car with us in the morning, ride the B or D back up the Concourse, and collect it later.
The question we hear most from this neighborhood is whether it is worth involving insurance at all. Our answer does not change: let us look before you decide. We check what comprehensive covers on your policy, tell you what the deductible would be, and point out when a chip repair is likely to cost you nothing because the carrier waives it. If claiming makes no sense for your situation, we say so and quote the work plainly.
East Fordham Road is one of the busiest shopping strips in the borough, and driving it is an exercise in patience, with Select buses pulling in and out, delivery vans double-parked and pedestrians crossing wherever a gap appears. The Grand Concourse crosses it at the top of the hill, Metro-North stops on Fordham Road itself, the 4 runs on Jerome and the B and D run under the Concourse. A lot of car owners here park a few streets off the strip and walk in. The residential blocks toward the university and the Botanical Garden side are quieter and workable for mobile jobs; on the retail blocks we would rather you came to the shop than have us set up in the middle of that. Loading zones on the side streets fill by mid-morning, so if you are dropping the car off, come down to us rather than hunting for a space up there.

Stop-and-go traffic is harder on glass than people expect. On Fordham Road you are constantly closing on the vehicle ahead, which puts your windshield right in the path of whatever a bus or truck tire flicks off a patched lane. Deliveries add their own risk, with pallet jacks, hand trucks and roll cages moving between double-parked vans and storefronts, occasionally into somebody's door glass. Then there is the hill, where cars parked on the grades take contact in tight spaces. And a chip picked up in October has the whole winter to spread while the car sits out overnight. Fordham Road also carries an unusual amount of bus traffic for its width, and a bus pulling back into the lane ahead of you lifts whatever has collected along the curb line.
Take the Grand Concourse south from Fordham Road and stay on it. Roughly two miles later you reach Mount Eden Avenue; turn west and we are at number 30, between the Concourse and Jerome Avenue. It usually runs about ten minutes outside of rush hour. Jerome Avenue works too, but the roadway under the elevated is rough and cracked glass does not enjoy it. Not drivable at all? Give us the address and the van comes to you, and the claim can be opened from your curb while the tech works. Street parking near the shop is ordinary west Bronx parking, so leave the car with us instead of circling the block.
